Great Scavenger Hunt to benefit Optimist Club

Vacaville will once again be challenged to race around town solving clues and finding items in October.

Christina Baird’s Great Scavenger Hunt is from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 14 at businesses and other locations around Vacaville.

Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to the Optimist Club of Solano County to support youth organizations and events in the community.

This is the fifth year Baird has dedicated her birthday to supporting youth in the community.

“We’ve done some type of fundraiser since I turned 40, for some type of organization or community outreach,” Baird said.

The first two years she collected non-monetary donations for youth. Then three years ago, she started the scavenger hunt with the goal to raise $1,000.

Meeting that goal, the event brought in $2,000 the second year and $3,000 the last year.

“We’d like to hit $5,000 (this year),” Baird said.

Local businesses can help by becoming a sponsor and part of the game — their locations will be some of the stops on the hunt.

“Most businesses can be a sponsor even if they’re not a brick and mortar,” Baird said, by dropping off their prizes at a public location.

Another way to help is to donate snacks or other items for the scavenger hunt “survival bags.”

Businesses get recognition, families learn more about their community and nonprofit organizations get funds, Baird said.

It’s also a lot of fun, she added, and everyone gets excited.

“It was so cute that everybody was just really into it,” she said.
