Dawn and Joyelle are both mothers and survivors of childhood trauma. Discouraged by their exhaustive search to find support for mothers and fathers who are struggling with the ripple effects of abuse, as they raise their children, they decided to create their own resource. Dawn and Joyelle are co-editing a first of its kind anthology called Trigger Points: Abuse Survivors Experiences of Parenting.
The anthology will include a collection of essays and poems, written by mothers and fathers who are survivors of sexual, physical and/or emotional abuse. The decision to focus on the triggers parenting survivors experience was born out of personal experiences, and the realization that these triggers are a window into the parts of us that still need attention, in order to continue the healing process. The focus is on healing, recovery and overcoming the challenges we face as parenting survivors.
Dawn and Joyelle have created a supportive Facebook community for parenting survivors, and hope that you will join them. This is a space to feel less alone, encouraged, empowered and to learn more about how you can contribute your voice to the Trigger Points anthology.
It’s true what they say, becoming a parent changes everything. How one continues his or her process of healing is a part of that.
