Spoken Word Poet, Guente connects his audience with a friend of his who is a rapist he never confronts. Our culture teaches us to mind our own business, to not stick up to our peers and to look away in uncomfortable situations for fear of rejection. Guante speaks of fellow men’s responsibility to speak up for the safety of others avoiding a life of guilt. Rape Culture tells us that it is not apart of us, as we interact on so many levels within each others relationships. Not saying something doesn’t make it ok. A conversation that never happened doesn’t mean a “no” becomes or is an assumed “yes”.
