Wil Wheaton sticks up for the nerds

As my son enters Junior High, I feel my own anxiety over the potential of bullying that can occur at this age. Projections can be so cruel. Our children are sponges and they hear everything we say. If we stereotype or judge others, our kids will absorb our behaviors as their own. Teaching our children to be happy in their own skin and to cherish others for their uniqueness is the greatest gift we can give our youth. Diversity engages growth and change, which is essential to our evolutionary self-awareness. I am hoping that we can embrace each other with our differences and teach our children to appreciate and respect their peers unconditionally. Actor Wil Wheaton sits on a panel at the Denver Comic Con in 2013. When asked how he dealt with bullying as a kid, Wil gives the young girl the best advice ever by encouraging her to stick to what she loves and to invest the time to find out what her “bullys” like so that they can find a common ground of respect for each other.
