The right kind of competition Posted on Joseyxo by jo.taniguchi@yahoo.com
This year my friend Jessica Salinas and I got the opportunity to be part of a competition that involves giving back. When Jess told me about this competition and what it entails, I said I was down to partake. Keep in mind that Jess and I have jobs that even when you’re not “at work”, you are still working. Bottom line, before we knew it was the day before the deadline. We literally thought of an idea, went to Michael’s Craft Store and bought fabric paint, and the rest was history. We are no where near professional when it comes to photography, modeling, or make up, but that didn’t stop us. We had a camera, make up, and knew enough about posing for a decent picture.
The competition is held through a non-profit called PCTRS. We basically had to put something together that we think would depict a phenomenal woman through photography to basically end up raising money for women’s healthcare. Both having mothers from foreign backgrounds, we see the struggle they go through trying to get quality health-care. To us, if we could be a part of raising money for women’s health care through art, it seemed possible and important. When we found out we made the cut, we were excited. Now, the fun part. We need to raise the money!
