April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and time to raise awareness about the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse, and to support programs that work to prevent child abuse through strengthening family resilience, empowering children and families and educating the community.
NEW Child Abuse Statistics!
In partnership with the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center and Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, the Children’s Network has released a study of the economics of child abuse, The Cost of Child Abuse for Solano County. You can read here about the information on the methodologies, assumptions and sources used to create the cost estimates.
We now know that in Solano County, one year of substantiated cases of abuse costs over $110.8 million. The greatest burden falls upon our children and families, then eventually, the entire community is affected.
We would like to thank the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center and Katie Albright, Executive Director, for their dedicated work and research on the impact and cost of child abuse and neglect in California counties.
The Solano County Family Resource Centers are made possible with funding from the County of Solano and First 5 Solano Children and Families Commission.
