I watched this video recalling memories of my own childhood. Having a car to sleep in and washing up at the 24 hour Fitness was just as creative as climbing through windows and sneaking showers and borrowing clean clothes from others. When my book, How Far Will I Run A Memoir came out, I had childhood friends contact me, wondering why they never knew I was homeless in our high school years. The Write Home Project creates space for homeless youth to write and express what they are experiencing, helping them find their power to envision an endless spectrum of possibilities for their future. The National Alliance to End Homelessness and Tuck Sleep have an abundant supply of information on ending homelessness in our communities. There is only room for compassion and empowerment in these circumstances.
